so while we've been preoccupied over here with u.s. election primaries and outrageous weather and recession and whatnot, across the water a supermodel/singer-songwriter has married the french president. this is already old news to a lot of people, but I'm just coming to it this morning. I've had bruni's album quelqu'un m'a dit on shuffle for a couple of years since jen and her france-visiting manfriend adi burned it for me. pretty music. check out her wikipedia writeup--quite the femme fatale.
bodhibound reminds me that back in the day I'd'a been a big fat swoony fool for mister chet atkins.
coming up on the third weekend of our friend kate's curated series, method to madness, at links hall in chicago. attended performances last weekend with gina and laura, but I suspect this wkend will be better in part due to chris salveter's (aka judson claiborne) participation.
... sorry, I had originally put a video of him playing live here-- there are a few fan videos on youtube-- but, oddly, when I try to embed and then play them, I get a message saying they're no longer available. weird and annoying. hmph.
besides american idol.
(my god! have you ever watched it?? it's epic.)

just felt like playing a little "jane fonda" this morning....
It's dedication time. What song are you sending out, and who is it dedicated to?

What's your musical horoscope? (Put your music player on shuffle and write down the first 10 songs that come up.) Inspired by Stephanie.

this is what other people get from roller coasters, sky-diving-- but a weak stomach and fear of heights keep my thrill-seeking modest: I like the plane's acceleration to take-off; I like the anticipation leading up to a desired event; and I love a song with a long build. yes, I know there's something orgasmic about this predilection-- so sue me. but sometimes these bouts of simple splendid joy just drop down out of the universe for no accountable reason.
I'm walking back home from the western el stop when it hits me. it rained this morning and there are puddles, and the sun is just busting out, but it's still cool. I'm wearing ivory silk and hip-hugging linen trousers and swinging earrings and chunky-heeled sandals. I've got the earpieces to my ipod shuffle still screwed into my ears from the train ride, and donovan's "season of the witch" starts to play. who cares what the lyrics mean-- the season of the witch could be the flip side of the age of aquarius or complete nonsense for all I give. this song is sexy. I feel good. and suddenly I'm split-faced grinning, striding down my chicago neighborhood street, and everything just everything everything is right with the world.
